Vegetable Momos


Momos or Dumplings have become a favourite all time snacks in almost all hill-stations and even big cities of India and worldwide. It is loved by all age groups and suits everybody’s taste buds. The chutney makes a perfect condiment and the combination is just superb. Here is how I make it:

Ingredients required for the stuffing:

  • Finely chopped cabbage
  • Finely chopped onion
  • Finely chopped garlic
  • Finely chopped ginger
  • Finely chopped green chillies (optional)
  • Dalda ghee
  • Ajinomoto – salt to taste

Method:

Heat the ghee. Mix garlic,ginger,onion and green chillies together. Put the ghee in a frying pan and after a while add the mixed vegetables in it and saute. Now add ajinomoto and saute again. After some time add the chopped cabbage and mix all the vegetables properly. Add salt to taste.

Ingredients for the dough:

  • Plain flour
  • Heated dalda ghee
  • Water

Method:

Mix maida with the heated ghee and knead it with water, The dough shoudn’t be very soft and not have hard grains in it.

Momo Chutney:

  • 3 to 4 tomatoes
  • Garlic – 10 to 12 pods
  • One small piece onion
  • One small piece ginger
  • Salt to taste
  • 6 to 7 red chillies according to taste

Method:

Boil the tomatoes in the vessel in which you are going to steam the momos. After they are boiled add some cold water to the boiled tomatoes and peel off the cover. In a mixer add the tomatoes,onion,red chillies,salt and garlic. Now grind them properly to a fine paste.

Finally grease the containers in which the Momos are to be steamed and steam them for 10-15 mins. Delicious momos are ready!
